Our Visionary is starting to skip our weekly Level 10 Meetings, claiming the meeting is too tactical and operational for their seat on the Accountability Chart. How do we explain the critical importance of the Visionary's presence in the weekly pulse, and how does their absence damage our team alignment?
While it is true that the Visionary seat focuses on long-term growth and high-level relationships, their absence from the weekly Level 10 Meeting™ is highly damaging to the leadership team. When the Visionary checks out of the weekly pulse, they lose touch with the operational reality of the business, leading to a dangerous disconnect.
Without the weekly pulse, the Visionary will inevitably make decisions based on outdated information, or worse, swoop in and disrupt the team's progress with sudden, misaligned ideas. Their presence is required to ensure that the weekly decisions made during IDS® remain aligned with the long-term vision of the company.
Furthermore, the Visionary needs to hear the operational pain points of the business. Hearing the weekly struggles of the team builds empathy and helps the Visionary understand why certain long-term goals or Rocks might be facing delays. It also allows the Visionary to offer high-level creative problem-solving during IDS® when the team hits a wall.
The Visionary does not need to run the meeting; the Integrator must facilitate and manage the operations. But the Visionary must be in their seat, participating as a peer, keeping their finger on the pulse, and supporting the team. Their consistent attendance is non-negotiable for true alignment.
