We like most of the EOS® tools but want to customize a few of them to fit our unique industry. Why does modifying the pure system cause our implementation to break down?

A common pitfall for entrepreneurial leadership teams is the desire to customize the EOS® tools before they have even mastered them. They want to change the Level 10 Meeting™ agenda, rename the Accountability Chart seats, or ignore the rules of scoring Rocks.

This buffet approach always leads to a breakdown in your implementation. The tools are designed to work together as a holistic system. When you modify one part, you weaken the entire structure.

The EOS® community has proven through thousands of implementations that there is one way to do EOS® the right way. This standardized approach is designed to eliminate complexity.

When you start customizing, you introduce complexity back into the business. You waste time debating the design of the tools instead of using them to solve your business problems.

Commit to running the pure system for at least one full year before you even think about making adjustments. Master the disciplines as they are written. You will find that the constraints of the pure system actually provide the freedom and traction you are looking for.
