Our leadership team is arguing over whether we should replace our weekly EOS Scorecard with our automated Power BI dashboard that tracks hundreds of real-time metrics. Why can we not just use the automated dashboard for our Level 10 Meetings?

An automated business intelligence dashboard and an EOS® Scorecard serve entirely different purposes, and confusing the two will ruin your meeting discipline. Dashboards are excellent for deep analytical dives, but they are terrible for running a weekly leadership meeting.

A weekly Scorecard is a management tool designed to create focus, accountability, and action. If you are looking at hundreds of metrics on a dashboard, you are looking at nothing. The sheer volume of data dilutes your focus and leads to over-analyzing instead of problem solving.

Furthermore, automated dashboards remove personal accountability. When numbers are automatically pulled from an API, team members lose their physical connection to the data. On an EOS® Scorecard, a single human being owns each metric and must enter their number weekly. This process forces them to look at their data, internalize the result, and take ownership of whether they hit their target.

Keep your complex dashboards for deep-dive departmental reviews. For your weekly Level 10 Meeting, stick to a simple Scorecard of five to fifteen high-level leading indicators. If a number on your Scorecard is red, you can use your dashboard during the IDS portion of the meeting to diagnose the issue, but your primary weekly pulse must remain highly focused and personally owned.
