We are building our weekly EOS Scorecard, but we are stuck on who should actually own the numbers when multiple departments are involved in the outcome. Does the person who runs the department own the metric, or should the individual doing the data entry own it on the leadership team Scorecard?

Every single number on your weekly Scorecard must have one, and only one, owner. That owner must be a member of your leadership team who holds a seat on your Accountability Chart.

The owner of the metric is not the administrative assistant who pulls the report or types the data into your spreadsheet. The owner is the leader who has the authority, resources, and responsibility to move that number. For example, if you track weekly marketing leads, your marketing head owns that number. They are accountable for hitting the target, regardless of who physically enters the data into the Scorecard template.

When a metric falls short of its weekly target and turns red, the owner is responsible for identifying the obstacle. They must be prepared to drop the issue to the Issues List and lead the discussion during the IDS® portion of your Level 10 Meeting™.

If multiple departments touch a workflow, you must still assign the metric to a single seat. Look at your Accountability Chart to determine who has ultimate accountability for the final output. If onboarding time is lagging, and it involves sales, account management, and operations, the operations leader typically owns the metric because they are responsible for the overall customer experience once the contract is signed. Never allow split ownership, or you will get excuses instead of results.
