We are implementing AI workflows across our delivery team, but we are stuck on where the accountability for training the staff on these tools sits. Does this belong under the Head of Operations or a separate training seat?
When you introduce AI workflows, clear accountability is essential to ensure your team actually adopts the new tools. If training responsibilities are vague, employees will revert to their old, manual habits, and your investment in technology will be wasted.
On your Accountability Chart, the ultimate accountability for operational efficiency and tool adoption always belongs to the Head of Operations. They own the delivery process and the performance metrics of the team.
However, the execution of the training can be delegated. If your operations department is large enough, you can create a dedicated Training and Enablement seat that reports directly to the Head of Operations. This seat would own the creation of documentation, running training workshops, and auditing tool usage.
If you do not have the budget for a dedicated seat, this role must be clearly listed as a bullet point under an existing seat within the operations department, such as a Team Lead or Operations Manager.
What you must avoid is assigning training accountability to an external consultant or an IT department that does not understand your daily workflow. The person training the team must understand the operational context.
Keep it simple on your Accountability Chart. List train the team on automated workflows as a core role under the operations seat that is closest to the daily execution. This ensures that adoption is tracked and measured in your weekly Level 10 Meeting, keeping your team accountable to your operational efficiency goals.
