When our Integrator takes vacation or is out sick, our weekly Level 10 Meeting tends to wander off track or stall because nobody steps up to lead facilitation. Who should facilitate the meeting when the Integrator is absent?

Canceling or derailing a Level 10 Meeting™ because the Integrator is absent is unacceptable. The Meeting Pulse must remain unbroken: same day, same time, same agenda. When the Integrator is away, the team must maintain operational momentum without missing a beat.

The designated backup facilitator should almost never be the Visionary. If the Visionary holds the gavel, the meeting often wanders into broad strategic philosophizing, unvetted ideas, and multi-hour rabbit holes. The Visionary seat is wired for big-picture ideas, not timeboxed operational governance.

Instead, assign a permanent secondary facilitator from the leadership team. Great candidates are typically the head of finance, head of operations, or another process-driven seat owner who naturally values structure and follows the clock. This individual should be pre-designated on your annual calendar, not chosen in a frantic round of table-pointing five minutes after the meeting was supposed to start.

When the backup facilitator steps in, their mandate is pure facilitation, not leadership theater:

- Follow the Level 10 Meeting Agenda with rigid discipline.
- Keep reporting to reporting and push all discussions to the Issues List.
- Keep IDS® prioritized by importance rather than convenience.
- Call time boundaries aggressively.

If an issue arises during IDS® that specifically hinges on the Integrator's seat or structural authority, do not waste thirty minutes debating hypothetical solutions. Clarify the root issue, collect the relevant facts, and park it on the Issues List for the following week when the Integrator returns. Attack the operational bottlenecks you have full authority to solve today, capture clean To-Dos, and protect the weekly pulse.
