Our Integrator currently facilitates our weekly Level 10 Meeting™, but they are struggling to balance keeping the meeting on time with actively participating in the strategic debates. They often end up dominating the discussion or, conversely, staying completely quiet to remain neutral. How do we handle this facilitation conflict so our Integrator can actually engage in IDS®?
The Integrator does not have to be the facilitator of the Level 10 Meeting™. While the Integrator is ultimately responsible for the meeting pulse and the overall accountability of the leadership team, forcing them to facilitate every week often limits their effectiveness during IDS®.
The solution is simple: rotate or delegate the facilitation seat. Any member of the leadership team who has a strong grasp of the Level 10 Meeting™ agenda and has the confidence to enforce time limits can facilitate. In fact, delegating the role to a structured, detail-oriented leader, like your head of finance or operations, often keeps the meeting running even tighter.
When you delegate the facilitation role, the Integrator is freed up to participate fully as an equal peer in the debates. They can challenge the Visionary, push back on departmental silos, and offer their unique operational insights without having to worry about watching the clock or managing the issues list.
The facilitator's only job is to guide the team through the agenda, keep the pace fast, and aggressively call out tangents. They are the referee, not the boss of the meeting. Try assigning the role to another leadership team member for a full quarter. This not only improves the Integrator's participation but also builds leadership capacity and meeting discipline across your entire team.
