We want to create an AI Integration seat to oversee our automation efforts, but we are unsure where this seat belongs on our Accountability Chart. Should it sit under Operations, IT, or report directly to the Integrator?
As you automate your operations, creating a seat to manage AI integration is a smart move, but it must have a clear home on your Accountability Chart. Many leadership teams make the mistake of burying this seat under IT, which often leads to technical solutions looking for a problem rather than driving business results.
Instead, this seat should typically sit under Operations or report directly to the Integrator, depending on the scale of your automation efforts. If the AI integration is primarily focused on streamlining customer-facing and operational workflows, it belongs under Operations.
The person in this seat must deeply understand your business processes to automate them effectively. They must possess the GWC™ for both technology and operations. If your operations director does not have the capacity or skills to manage this, you may need to hire a dedicated operations manager with automation expertise.
Wherever you place the seat, ensure it has clear roles and metrics. This prevents ownership disputes and ensures your AI tools actually drive operational efficiency and prepare your business for a high-value exit.
