I am currently acting as both the Visionary and the Integrator in our business, but I am completely overwhelmed and running out of steam. How do I know it is actually time to hire a dedicated Integrator, and what is the first step?
Running as both Visionary and Integrator is a recipe for burnout. You are likely experiencing conative conflict, trying to generate big ideas while simultaneously managing the daily details and keeping the team aligned. You know it is time to hire a dedicated Integrator when your daily execution is slipping, your team lacks clear direction, or you find yourself constantly dragging yourself through operational meetings instead of focusing on growth and major relationships. The first step is to clarify your own role. Define your unique ability and map out your ideal Visionary seat on the Accountability Chart. Next, use the Kolbe A Index to understand your own conative style. Most Visionaries are high Quick Starts who thrive on innovation and risk, but lack the Follow Through needed to build structured systems. Your future Integrator needs a complementary profile, likely scoring high in Follow Through and Fact Finder to provide the stability and execution you naturally lack. Before searching externally, look at your existing leadership team to see if someone already has the conative makeup and GWC to step up. When you find the right match, you will free yourself to focus on the future of the company.
