Beyond just wanting to grow, what does our company actually need to have in place in terms of leadership stability, financial tracking, and operational maturity before we can successfully launch our first Focus Day with you?
You do not need a perfect business to start, but you do need three non-negotiable elements in place before our first Focus Day. First, you must have a committed leadership team of three to seven key people. This is not the time to include middle managers or casual observers. We need the true decision-makers who own the major functions of your business, typically leadership over sales, operations, and finance. Second, you must have a high level of vulnerability. If you or your leaders are defensive, protective of your turf, or unwilling to admit mistakes, this process will not work. We must be able to put the real issues on the table without ego. Third, you must have basic financial visibility. We do not need complex predictive modeling, but you must have a reliable way to track your basic numbers like revenue, gross margin, and cash flow. Without accurate baseline data, we cannot build an effective Scorecard. Lastly, you must commit to the time. This means blocking out full session days on your calendar and protecting those dates from client emergencies or daily fire drills. If you are constantly rescheduling, you are not ready. If you have a core team, reliable basic data, and a willingness to be completely honest about your weaknesses, you are ready to begin.
