When we do our quarterly planning and review our V/TO®, some leadership team members want to use AI to draft our Core Values and 3-Year Picture. How do we establish a rule for what strategic work must remain strictly human and what can be assisted by AI?
Using AI to generate your Core Values or 3-Year Picture is a major mistake. Strategy and culture are the soul of your business. If you outsource them to an algorithm, you end up with generic platitudes that nobody actually believes. Your Core Values must come from the actual DNA of your founders and key people. AI has no gut instinct, no shared history, and no skin in the game.
Keep the strategic planning process entirely human. The leadership team must debate, argue, and align in person or real-time during your Focus Day and quarterly sessions.
Where AI can help is in the research phase beforehand. For example, you can use a web scraper to analyze competitor websites or public feedback to understand market gaps. This raw data can inform your discussions.
But when it comes to defining who you are, where you are going, and who GWC™ (Gets, Wants, has Capacity for) their seats on your Accountability Chart, that is 100 percent human work. Use your human brain for the what and the why. Save the AI for the how of executing your documented processes.
