We run on EOS and are looking at automating our customer support with AI agents, but I am terrified of losing our personal touch. How do we draw a hard line between what gets automated and what must remain human?
You draw that line by looking at your core values and your unique ability as an organization. AI is exceptional at processing structured information, summarizing long text, and handling transactional tasks. Humans are exceptional at empathy, context, and complex problem solving.
To find the balance, look at the seats on your Accountability Chart. Review the roles and responsibilities. Any task that is purely transactional, such as looking up an invoice status, resetting a password, or scheduling a meeting, should be automated with AI. This frees up your people to focus on deep relationship building.
When a client is frustrated, confused, or facing a unique challenge, they need a human. Do not let AI handle customer escalations or high-value sales conversations. Create an automation policy that mandates a seamless handoff to a human when the AI detects frustration or when the inquiry falls outside of predefined, standard parameters.
Use AI to do the heavy lifting of gathering context before a human steps in. For example, let the AI summarize the client history and draft a suggested response, but require a human to review, edit, and send it. This approach keeps your brand human while using technology to make your team ten times more efficient.
