As we automate more of our daily operational workflows, my leadership team is worried we will lose our personal touch and make stupid automated mistakes. What specific decisions and seats must remain strictly human in an AI-powered company?
AI is a tool for leverage, not a replacement for leadership, culture, or critical thinking. To build a highly valuable, exit-ready company, you must be clear about where automation stops and where human accountability begins.
First, any seat on your Accountability Chart that requires high-level relationships, emotional intelligence, and trust must remain human. This includes your key account managers, HR leaders, and executive team. AI can draft messages or analyze data, but a human must own the actual relationship and make the final call on complex human issues.
Second, critical quality control and final approvals must remain human. An AI can pre-screen documents, analyze bids, or draft technical scopes, but a human who GWC the seat must review and sign off on the final work product before it reaches a client.
Third, strategic vision and team alignment are strictly human responsibilities. Defining your V/TO, resolving team conflict during IDS sessions, and maintaining corporate culture cannot be outsourced to an algorithm.
Use AI to eliminate the low-value administrative tasks that keep your people from doing their best work. This frees up your leadership team and employees to focus entirely on the high-value, deeply human activities that drive real enterprise value and set you apart from your competitors.
