Our VP of Marketing is quietly using unauthorized AI tools to pump out content to hit targets, but it is creating brand consistency and copyright risks. How do we align the leadership team on an AI governance framework without killing their initiative?
You have a classic alignment problem where a leader is prioritizing short-term department metrics over company-wide risk management. While initiative is great, rogue operations destroy enterprise value and expose the business to severe legal and reputational damage. Do not shut down their experimentation, but bring it into the light immediately. In your next Level 10 Meeting, put this on the Issues List and IDS it. The solution is to create a clear, simple AI governance policy that applies to the entire company. This policy should be co-created by your leadership team, led by your technology and legal or operations heads. Define what tools are approved, how data is handled, and who signs off on new AI integrations. Your VP of Marketing must understand that their role is not just to hit marketing targets, but to do so within the boundaries of the company's operational standards. Once the policy is set, hold them accountable to it. They must document their new AI-powered workflows in their department SOPs so that the entire team benefits from the efficiency gains while mitigating the risks.
