Our Visionary insists that their seat on the Accountability Chart is purely creative and strategic, so they do not need any weekly Scorecard numbers. How do we hold our most senior leader accountable to data without stifling their creative freedom?
It is a common trap for Visionaries to believe they are exempt from the discipline of the weekly Scorecard. They often argue that their strategic thinking and creative spark cannot be quantified. However, in an EOS® company, everyone has a seat on the Accountability Chart, and every seat has numbers. No exceptions.
To enroll your Visionary in data tracking, look at the actual output of their seat. The Visionary is typically responsible for big relationships, industry research, and strategic opportunities. Their weekly measurables should reflect these high-impact activities rather than administrative tasks.
Consider tracking metrics such as:
- Number of strategic partnership meetings held.
- Number of high-value client or mentor check-ins completed.
- Count of research hours spent on future market opportunities or emerging technology like artificial intelligence.
These numbers do not restrict their creative freedom. Instead, they protect it. By quantifying their strategic activities, the Visionary can prove to the rest of the leadership team that they are actively driving future growth, rather than just dreaming up ideas. It builds trust across the Accountability Chart and reinforces the message that accountability applies to everyone, from the founder to the newest hire.
