As the founder and primary Visionary, I am struggling to let go of the long-term strategy and partner relationships. What objective metrics on our weekly EOS Scorecard will prove to me that my leadership team has successfully assumed the Visionary responsibilities?
Transitioning out of the Visionary seat is one of the hardest psychological hurdles for any founder. To let go without anxiety, you must replace subjective feelings with objective data on your weekly EOS Scorecard. If your leadership team is ready to own the strategic direction of the company, your Scorecard must reflect metrics that track the health of your long-term growth and market position. Start tracking forward-looking indicators such as new strategic partnership inquiries, pipeline velocity for major accounts, and research and development milestone completion rates. You should also monitor cultural health through quarterly employee net promoter scores. When these metrics consistently hit their targets and your leadership team is successfully resolving strategic issues using the IDS process in their Level 10 Meeting, you have the proof you need. Additionally, look at your V/TO. If your team is actively updating and executing the three-year picture and annual plan without you driving the discussion, they have successfully assumed the Visionary responsibilities. Seeing these strategic indicators remain green for several consecutive quarters provides the objective validation required for you to step away safely, knowing that the company's strategic future is secure under their management.
