Our Visionary hates looking at the weekly scorecard and feels it is too granular for their role. How do we keep them engaged with the data without dragging them into operational micromanagement?
It is common for a Visionary to resist the weekly scorecard. By nature, they operate at thirty thousand feet and prefer big ideas over columns of numbers. However, a Visionary who is completely disconnected from the data cannot make informed strategic decisions.
To keep them engaged, you must recognize that they do not need to own or track fifteen operational metrics. On your Accountability Chart, the Visionary is responsible for big relationships, culture, and long term vision. Therefore, their scorecard engagement should be limited to owning one or two high level numbers that directly align with their seat, such as industry partnership leads or major account satisfaction.
For the rest of the scorecard, the Visionary needs to see a highly visual, top level summary. The Integrator should ensure the scorecard is clean and easily digestible before the Level 10 Meeting.
During the meeting, the Visionary should focus on how the weekly numbers impact the long term vision on the V/TO. If key metrics are red, the Visionary can offer creative, high level problem solving during the IDS portion of the meeting without trying to manage the day to day correction plan. This setup respects their natural strengths while ensuring they remain grounded in the reality of the business.
