As the Visionary, I feel like I am constantly disrupting our weekly Level 10 Meetings™ by bringing up new ideas and distracting the team from our quarterly Rocks. How should a Visionary behave in these weekly sessions to keep things on track?

Visionaries are built to create, disrupt, and look ahead, which makes them highly valuable but also highly dangerous in a structured weekly meeting. If you are not careful, you will hijack the Level 10 Meeting™ and turn it into a brainstorming session.

To prevent this, the Visionary must accept the leadership of the Integrator. The Integrator runs the weekly meeting, not the Visionary. If the Integrator tells you that your new idea is off topic, you must accept that guidance and let it go.

Next, use the nineteen day rule for all new ideas. When a brilliant new concept pops into your head, do not bring it to the weekly meeting. Write it down and wait nineteen days. If it still feels like a game changer after nineteen days, bring it to your next quarterly planning session or ask the Integrator to discuss it outside of the weekly operational meeting.

During the IDS® portion of the meeting, the Visionary should act as a consultant, not a dictator. Offer your perspective, but let the seat owners solve the problems within their own departments.

Your job in the weekly meeting is to support the team, clarify the vision when asked, and ensure the company is staying aligned with the V/TO®. Leave the daily tactical execution to the Integrator and the department heads.
