As the Visionary, I know I need to let my leadership team run the business, but I constantly find myself stepping in to solve departmental issues directly with middle managers. How do I break this habit and force myself to respect the Accountability Chart without feeling completely disconnected from my own company?

This is the classic Visionary disease, and it is highly destructive to your leadership team. When you bypass your directors to solve problems directly with middle managers, you dilute the authority of your leaders, create mass confusion, and foster a culture of dependency. If you want an exit-ready business, you must let your team lead.

To break this habit, start by looking at your Accountability Chart and understanding your own seat. As the Visionary, your job is to focus on big ideas, key relationships, and long-term strategy, not the daily execution. Your Integrator is the one who manages the leadership team and runs the day-to-day operations.

When an issue catches your eye, resist the urge to solve it. Instead, bring it to your weekly Same-Page Meeting™ with your Integrator. Let them handle the operational execution. If a middle manager approaches you with an issue, direct them back to their direct supervisor on the leadership team.

You can stay connected to the company without meddling. Use the weekly Scorecard to monitor organizational health. Attend your Level 10 Meeting™ sessions to stay informed of high-level progress. Trust your leadership team to do their jobs. By delegating operational control, you allow your leaders to grow, prepare your business to operate without you, and maximize its value for a clean exit.
