I successfully hired an Integrator and transitioned to the Visionary seat, but I find myself constantly stepping in to resolve operational issues and giving feedback directly to my department heads. My Integrator says I am undermining her authority and confusing the team. How do I use the Accountability Chart to stop meddling?
You are suffering from classic Visionary meddling, and it is a fast track to driving your new Integrator out the door. When you bypass your Integrator and go straight to department heads, you shatter the integrity of your Accountability Chart. You confuse your team, dilute the Integrator's authority, and make it impossible to build a self-sustaining business that can survive an exit.
You must treat your Accountability Chart as the law of your organization. Look at the chart. You sit in the Visionary box. Your Integrator sits below you, and the department heads report directly to the Integrator.
Your path of communication for operational issues must stop at the Integrator seat. If you spot an operational problem, do not fix it yourself and do not assign it to a department head. Bring it to your weekly same-page meeting with your Integrator. Let them own the solution and direct the team.
If you cannot stop meddling, it is usually because you have not fully let go of the control. Remember, your value is now strategic, not tactical. Focus your energy on your true roles: big relationships, industry trends, and high-level strategy. Let your Integrator do their job of running the business.
