I am the Visionary, and during our weekly Level 10 Meeting™, I constantly find myself interrupting our Integrator's facilitation to steer the discussion or add my own context, which is clearly undermining their authority. How do I restrain my Visionary energy and let the Integrator run the meeting?
It is common for a Visionary to struggle with the discipline of a Level 10 Meeting™. By nature, Visionaries are big-picture thinkers who operate on emotion and ideas, while the weekly pulse is a highly structured, operational discipline managed by the Integrator. When you interrupt or override the Integrator during the meeting, you confuse the team and destroy the operational boundaries needed to run a healthy business.
To fix this, you must consciously shift your role from director to participant during the ninety minutes.
Start by physically or virtually yielding the floor. The Integrator is the owner of the Level 10 Meeting™ agenda and facilitation. When the meeting begins, your job is to follow their lead, respect the timeboxes, and participate only when called upon or during the appropriate agenda blocks.
Implement a simple system with your Integrator to manage your input:
- If you have an idea or context that is not on the agenda, do not speak it aloud immediately. Write it down.
- Put those thoughts on the Issues List so they can be prioritized alongside everything else.
- Agree on a silent signal, like a raised pen or a specific gesture, that lets your Integrator know you have critical input without you blabbing over them.
By respecting the Integrator's seat, you model healthy accountability for the entire leadership team. This discipline builds the organizational structure required to scale, which is essential if you ever want to prepare your business for a clean exit.
