Our Visionary constantly bypasses our Integrator to give direct orders to the department heads, which is destroying the integrity of our Accountability Chart. How do we break this destructive habit?
When a Visionary bypasses the Integrator and speaks directly to department heads, it fractures the Accountability Chart and creates operational chaos. It leaves middle managers confused about who they report to and halts execution.
To solve this, the Visionary and Integrator must establish a strict Same Page Meeting routine. This is a dedicated, weekly meeting where the two leaders align their goals, debate issues privately, and build a unified front. If you are not on the same page behind closed doors, you cannot expect your leadership team to execute effectively.
During this alignment process, refer directly to your signed Charter or operational covenant. This agreement must clearly outline the boundaries of each role. The Visionary must respect that the Integrator is responsible for running the daily operations and managing the leadership team.
If the Visionary has an urgent new idea, they must bring it to the Integrator first, or add it to the long-term Issues List on the V/TO. They must not cascade it directly to the staff. The Integrator must have the humble confidence to hold the Visionary accountable to these boundaries. When both leaders respect their defined seats, the business can execute at a highly accelerated pace.
