My Integrator has built a rigid operational structure, but now they are treating me like an employee and blocking me from communicating my Visionary ideas to the rest of the leadership team. How do we resolve this gatekeeping friction?
This is a common point of friction on leadership teams. A strong Integrator is wired to create order, protect the team from distractions, and maintain focus on your active Rocks. However, when protection turns into gatekeeping, it stifles creativity and damages the leadership dynamic.
The solution is not to bypass your Integrator and start directing the team. That will undermine their authority and destabilize your operations. Instead, you must use the same EOS tools designed to keep your relationship aligned.
Schedule a recurring Same Page Meeting with your Integrator. This meeting is your dedicated space to discuss wild ideas, strategic shifts, and future plans without distracting the rest of the company. It is where you iron out your differences and get on the same page.
In this meeting, review your ideas and let the Integrator filter them. If an idea is great but too disruptive for this quarter, put it on the long-term issues list on your V/TO. This keeps your ideas documented without derailing current operations.
You must also establish clear boundaries. The Integrator runs the daily operations and manages the leadership team. Your role as the Visionary is to inspire, build external relationships, and think ahead. If you need to communicate a strategic shift to the team, do it jointly with your Integrator. This shows the company that you are aligned and prevents the perception that you are being managed or ignored.
