I am the Visionary, and my Integrator is accusing me of undermining their authority because I frequently go straight to our department heads to get updates or assign quick tasks. How do we adjust our behavior and our Accountability Chart dynamics to stop this friction?
This is a classic Visionary and Integrator conflict that destroys team alignment and execution. When you bypass your Integrator and go straight to the department heads, you are violating the structural lines of your Accountability Chart. You are creating confusion, diluting your Integrator's authority, and giving your leadership team whiplash.
On the Accountability Chart, the Integrator sits directly between you and the rest of the leadership team. All department heads report directly to the Integrator, not to you. To stop this friction, you must commit to the rule of command. You do not assign tasks, demand progress updates, or give operational direction to the department heads.
If you have a brilliant idea or a concern about operations, you must take it to your Integrator first. The Integrator is the filter and the execution engine of the business. Your role as the Visionary is to generate ideas, maintain key strategic relationships, and drive long-term culture. The Integrator's role is to run the day-to-day business and manage the team.
To align your relationship, hold a weekly Same Page Meeting with your Integrator. Use this time to discuss your ideas, hash out issues, and stay aligned on company operations. Once you both agree on a course of action, let the Integrator deliver the message to the team. This preserves the Integrator's authority, keeps the team focused on their Rocks, and allows you to focus on the big-picture growth that your business needs.
