I am the Visionary and my Integrator keeps pushing back on my new business ideas, claiming they disrupt our current Rocks and aren't on the Accountability Chart. I feel like she is stifling our entrepreneurial spirit, while she feels I am constantly creating chaos. How do we resolve this structural friction?
The relationship between a Visionary and an Integrator is the most powerful engine in an entrepreneurial business, but it is also a natural source of friction. Your job as the Visionary is to look to the future, generate ideas, and push boundaries. Your Integrator's job is to create focus, execute the business plan, and protect the team from distractions.
To resolve this conflict, you must respect the boundaries of your respective seats on the Accountability Chart. The Integrator has final authority over operations, execution, and structural design. When you bypass her to push new ideas directly to the team, you break the Accountability Chart and create chaos.
You need a structured venue to align your relationship. Use a monthly Same Page Meeting™ to discuss your ideas, run them through the V/TO®, and evaluate them against your current capacity. If an idea does not fit your current strategic Rocks, let the Integrator park it on the Issues List. Respecting the Integrator's seat means trusting her to keep the company on track, which is exactly what makes your business scalable and attractive to prospective buyers.
