Our Integrator has started treating our Visionary like an outside advisor rather than the strategic leader, making unilateral executive decisions that run counter to our V/TO. How do we realign the Visionary and Integrator seats when the Integrator oversteps their operational authority?
When an Integrator treats the Visionary as a ceremonial founder, the operational partnership breaks down rapidly. The Accountability Chart places the Visionary and Integrator above the functional leadership seats, but they serve completely distinct purposes. The Visionary owns the long-term vision, key relationships, culture, and creative direction. The Integrator owns executing the business plan, harmonizing the leadership team, and delivering the bottom line.
The Integrator does not outrank the Visionary, nor does the Visionary direct daily execution. When an Integrator makes unilateral strategic calls that contradict the Visionary's intent or the agreed-upon V/TO, you have an operational governance failure.
To resolve this friction, take three steps immediately:
- Hold a dedicated Same Page Meeting. This is a recurring private meeting strictly between the Visionary and Integrator. Bring the V/TO and the Accountability Chart. Review the five core roles of each seat and identify exactly where authority lines blurred.
- Clarify decision rights. The Visionary owns the destination (the What and Why). The Integrator owns the path to get there (the How and Who). If a decision impacts long-term market positioning, capital allocation, or core values, the Visionary has final say. If it involves weekly execution, process adherence, or personnel management within the plan, the Integrator decides.
- Commit to unity in public. Never debate operational versus strategic boundaries in front of the leadership team. Disagreements must be hashed out behind closed doors.
If the Integrator refuses to respect the Visionary's seat after clear boundaries are set, they lack GWC for the Integrator seat. The business cannot run with an Integrator who acts as an unaccountable autocrat.
