My Integrator is constantly pushing back on my new product ideas, claiming they disrupt the current quarter's Rocks. How do we resolve this strategic friction without shutting down my entrepreneurial drive?
This friction is normal and healthy, but if left unresolved, it will paralyze your leadership team. As the Visionary, your mind operates in the future, generating ideas to grow and scale the company. Your Integrator operates in the present, focusing on execution, processes, and maintaining operational sanity.
To resolve this friction without killing your creativity, you must implement a structured boundary. First, use a designated place, often called the sandbox, to dump your new ideas. Do not bypass your Integrator to pitch these ideas to the rest of the team mid-quarter. This causes whiplash and destroys focus.
Second, commit to a monthly or bi-weekly Same Page meeting with your Integrator. This is a private session where you review your sandbox ideas together. Your Integrator will help you filter these concepts, assessing whether they align with your V/TO® and when the business has the actual capacity to execute them.
During your quarterly planning, you can officially bring the best sandbox ideas to the table for leadership team debate. If they make sense, they become Rocks for the upcoming quarter. This process respects your entrepreneurial drive while protecting the execution focus of your Integrator, ensuring the business actually gets things done.
