I am the Visionary, and my Integrator is constantly blocking my new ideas because they say we do not have the operational capacity. This friction is starting to stall our innovation. How do we resolve this without me constantly pulling rank and breaking our Accountability Chart structure?
The relationship between the Visionary and the Integrator is the most critical partnership in any EOS organization. When friction occurs, it is usually because you are trying to bypass the filter. As the Visionary, your job is to generate ideas. Your Integrator's job is to protect the organization from being overwhelmed by those ideas. You must use the Same Page Meeting to align before bringing ideas to the rest of the team. This meeting should happen weekly or bi weekly. Do not pitch new ideas directly to the team or add them to the Level 10 Meeting agenda without running them by your Integrator first. Introduce a formalized tool like an idea backlog or a simple spreadsheet where you dump your ideas. Let them sit there for thirty days. This allows the initial excitement to cool down. During your Same Page Meeting, review this list together. Your Integrator will assess each idea against your current Rocks and long term V/TO goals. If the Integrator says the business lacks the capacity right now, you must respect that boundary. Pulling rank destroys the Integrator's authority and teaches the team that the Accountability Chart is just a suggestion. If you want a business that can run without you, you must submit to the operational guardrails you built.
