My Integrator insists that we freeze all new service rollouts until our operational delivery processes are fully documented, but as Visionary, I see three critical market opportunities that will disappear if we wait six months. This tension is paralyzing our leadership team. How do we break this deadlock without blowing up our relationship?
Visionary and Integrator friction is normal and healthy, provided it is governed by process rather than ego. The tension you are experiencing is the classic battle between entrepreneurial offense and operational defense. Without the Visionary, the company does not grow. Without the Integrator, the company breaks.
The solution is not a showdown in your Level 10 Meeting. It is a dedicated Same Page Meeting. Step out of the building once a month, or weekly during periods of high friction, for a two to three hour session with only the two of you. Bring the V/TO and your Issues List.
First, review your 10-Year Target and 3-Year Picture. Does capturing these new service offerings align with your core focus, or are they shiny objects distracting from current revenue targets?
Second, quantify the actual capacity cost. Have your Integrator present the data: what breaks in delivery, margins, or customer retention if you pull resources to launch these services now? At the same time, calculate the true enterprise cost of delay.
Third, use the 90-day Rock cycle as the compromise mechanism. Agree to pilot one initiative as a scoped Rock owned by the Visionary or a designated project seat, while Operations protects core delivery. If you cannot reach unity in the Same Page Meeting, the Visionary breaks the tie on vision, but the Integrator dictates execution pace. Once a decision is finalized, you must walk out completely aligned in front of your leadership team.
