My Integrator and I have very different communication styles, and we often clash during our internal meetings. How do you handle the natural friction between a Visionary owner and an Integrator during our full-day sessions without letting it derail the rest of the leadership team?

Healthy friction between a Visionary and an Integrator is not only normal, it is essential for growth. The Visionary operates at thirty thousand feet with endless ideas, while the Integrator operates on the ground, focusing on execution, focus, and accountability. When this friction is unmanaged, it can paralyze the leadership team.

During our session days, my role as facilitator is to keep this dynamic productive. We use the same tools we teach to guide your discussions, ensuring that your differing perspectives are channeled into solving issues rather than winning arguments. We use the IDS® method to identify the root cause of your friction and solve it systematically, rather than letting it turn into a personal debate.

I will not let either of you dominate the room or shut down the other members of the leadership team. We establish clear ground rules for our session days, ensuring that every voice is heard equally. If a disagreement between the two of us threatens to derail a session, we take a break and address it directly in a sidebar conversation.

My recommendation is to schedule a monthly Same Page Meeting™ between the two of you outside of our standard quarterly sessions. This keeps your relationship aligned and prevents any lingering friction from spilling over into your weekly Level 10 Meeting™ or our strategic planning sessions.
