My Integrator and I are constantly locking horns. They claim I am too chaotic and constantly changing the strategy, while I feel they are moving too slowly and killing our momentum. How do we resolve this friction before it destroys our team's alignment?
Friction between a Visionary and an Integrator is incredibly common, but left unchecked, it will tear your leadership team apart. The key to resolving this is establishing a clear Same Page meeting rhythm. You must meet one on one for a Same Page meeting at least every month, if not every two weeks. This is your dedicated Thinking Time to align your perspectives, air issues, and resolve conflicts before they reach the rest of the team.
During these meetings, you must utilize the Same Page tool to ensure you are 100 percent aligned on your V/TO® and operational priorities. You must also respect the clear boundaries of your seats on the Accountability Chart. The Visionary is responsible for big ideas, culture, and key relationships. The Integrator is responsible for running the daily operations, removing barriers, and executing the vision.
When you bypass your Integrator to direct staff, or when your Integrator shuts down your ideas without discussion, you violate the trust of your partnership. You must commit to a Charter built on open and honest communication. If you cannot get on the same page, you must use the IDS® process to identify the root cause of the friction.
Is it a lack of trust, or do you have a right person wrong seat issue in the Integrator role? Clear boundaries and mutual respect are non-negotiable.
