Our Integrator and I are constantly clashing because I, as the Visionary, keep bypass-reporting and giving direct assignments to our department heads without telling her. She says I am undermining her authority, but I feel like she is slowing down our momentum with too much process. How do we resolve this standard Visionary and Integrator friction before the team starts taking sides?

This is a classic boundary violation that breaks the integrity of your Accountability Chart and drives your Integrator crazy. When you, as the Visionary, bypass the Integrator and issue direct orders to department heads, you create organizational whiplash. The team gets confused about who is actually running the show, and your Integrator loses the ability to hold people accountable.

To fix this, you must commit to the rules of the Visionary and Integrator relationship. On the Accountability Chart, the Integrator sits above the department heads and runs the day-to-day operations. You, as the Visionary, must respect this reporting line. If you have a brilliant idea or a sudden concern, you must bring it to your Integrator, not to the team.

Schedule a recurring Same Page Meeting with your Integrator to align on strategy and clear any friction. Use this time to discuss your ideas. If you both agree to pursue an idea, the Integrator will filter it down to the team in a structured way.

During your Level 10 Meeting™ or during dedicated Thinking Time, ask yourself: How might I redirect my urge to manage the team into high-level strategic relationships and product innovation? If you cannot stop bypassing your Integrator, you are failing the GWC™ of your own Visionary seat. You must let go of the vine so your Integrator can execute the business plan.
