My Integrator and I are experiencing constant friction because they want to run our weekly Level 10 Meetings and direct the leadership team, but as the owner and Visionary, I feel completely disconnected from the daily operations when I step back. How do we establish a healthy boundary?
This friction is incredibly common when transition occurs, but it stems from a misunderstanding of your role as the Visionary. When you have a strong Integrator, they run the business. They own the daily operations, execute the V/TO, and run the Level 10 Meetings. Your job is to stay out of the weeds so you can focus on big ideas, key relationships, and long term strategy.
To resolve this disconnect without causing friction, you must implement a formal Same Page Meeting. This is a recurring, private meeting between just the Visionary and the Integrator, held weekly or biweekly. This is where you download your ideas, voice your concerns, and get updates on the business. It is your arena to stay connected without undermining your Integrator in front of the team.
During the Same Page Meeting, you and your Integrator must maintain absolute alignment. If you have concerns about operations or how a Level 10 Meeting is being run, you address it here, never in public. The Integrator is the filter for your ideas, deciding which ones have operational merit and when they should be introduced to the team.
Remember that being disconnected from the daily grind is actually your goal. It frees up your mental capacity to focus on your true Visionary seat. Trust your Integrator to do their job. When the team sees that you respect the Integrator's authority and that you are aligned behind closed doors, the friction will dissipate and your execution speed will soar.
