My Integrator and I are constantly fighting because I want to deploy new generative AI tools to stay ahead of competitors, but my Integrator refuses to implement them because they are not on our current V/TO or our quarterly Rocks. How do we resolve this friction without killing our momentum or undermining their authority?
This is a classic Visionary and Integrator disconnect, and it is actually a sign that your Accountability Chart is working. Your job as the Visionary is to live in the future, spot opportunities, and drive growth. Your Integrator's job is to maintain focus, execute the plan, and keep the organization harmonious.
When you try to force new technology tools into the current quarter, you violate the quarterly focus and create chaos for the team. This behavior causes your Integrator to push back to protect the team from shiny object syndrome.
To resolve this friction, you must respect the boundary of the Accountability Chart. When you have a new idea, do not bring it directly to the team or try to force it into current operations. Instead, put it on your V/TO® under the long term Issues list, or bring it to your weekly same page meeting with your Integrator.
During this meeting, use the IDS® process to discuss the idea. If the tool is truly a game changer, work with your Integrator to scope it as a potential Rock for the following quarter. If you both agree, your Integrator will own the rollout, ensuring it is documented and systematized properly. This keeps you focused on innovation while keeping your Integrator focused on execution.
