My Integrator is constantly holding me accountable to my Rock commitments, but as the owner and Visionary, I feel micromanaged and restricted by this process. How do we resolve this operational friction without breaking our leadership dynamic?
Friction between a Visionary and an Integrator is common, but it must be managed before it stalls your business. The relationship only works when there is mutual trust and a clear division of labor.
As the Visionary, you are the creative engine of the company, but you are still an employee sitting in a seat on the Accountability Chart. This means you are subject to the same rules as everyone else. If you own a Rock, you are fully accountable for its execution.
When your Integrator holds you accountable, they are simply doing their job. The Integrator seat is responsible for running the day-to-day operations, managing execution, and ensuring the leadership team hits its goals. If you resist this accountability, you undermine the Integrator's authority and signal to the rest of the organization that the rules do not apply to you.
To resolve this friction, schedule a regular Same Page Meeting™ outside of your Level 10 Meeting™. Use this time to align on your roles and discuss where the boundaries are feeling crossed.
Remember that the Integrator must have the authority to manage the leadership team, including you. If you want a clean exit or a highly valuable business, you must prove that the company can run and hit its targets under the Integrator's leadership. Let your Integrator do their job so you can focus on yours.
