As a Visionary preparing my business for an exit, I find myself constantly clashing with my Integrator on who has the final say on high-level strategic decisions versus day-to-day operations. How do we draw a clear line between my strategic direction and their operational execution?

The relationship between the Visionary and the Integrator is the most critical partnership in your business, but it requires clear boundaries to prevent friction. To draw this line, you must look to your Accountability Chart and your V/TO®. The Visionary seat is responsible for big ideas, strategic relationships, culture, and major research and development. The Integrator seat is responsible for running the daily business, executing the business plan, and driving results across all departments. This means the Integrator must have the final say on operational decisions, process design, and team management. To keep this partnership healthy, you must implement a weekly Same Page meeting. This is a private, unstructured session where you and your Integrator align on strategy, resolve disputes, and ensure you are presenting a united front to the leadership team. If you disagree on a strategic decision, use this time to hash it out. Remember that while the Visionary sets the destination, the Integrator must be allowed to steer the ship. If you constantly override your Integrator's operational decisions, you destroy their authority and stall your business growth. Empowering your Integrator is the only way to build an independent business that can survive your eventual exit.
