We are struggling to define the exact boundaries between our Visionary and Integrator seats on our leadership team, which is leading to overlapping decisions and confusion. How do we clarify this division of labor?

When the boundaries between the Visionary and the Integrator are blurry, it creates massive confusion and friction across the entire leadership team. Employees will play you against each other, and execution will stall. To clarify this division of labor, you must use the Visionary and Integrator Complexity tool. Start by reviewing the distinct roles of each seat on your Accountability Chart. The Visionary is focused on the future, big ideas, culture, and key relationships. The Integrator is focused on execution, daily operations, and harmonizing the leadership team. To keep these seats distinct, you must respect the chain of command. The Visionary has only one direct report on the Accountability Chart: the Integrator. The Visionary must stop giving direct instructions to the rest of the leadership team. If you have an idea, you must run it through your Integrator first. To maintain alignment, you must hold a weekly Same Page Meeting™. Use this time to IDS® any disagreements or overlapping decisions privately. If you are not on the same page, the rest of the team will feel the fracture, and your execution will suffer. Respecting this structure is critical to building a scalable, exit ready business.
