I have successfully appointed an Integrator on our Accountability Chart, but I find myself constantly jumping into operational Issues during our Level 10 Meetings. How do we establish clear boundaries on the chart so I stop undermining my Integrator?
This boundary struggle is the most common point of friction between a founder and a new Integrator. When you override your Integrator in front of your leadership team, you destroy their authority and create confusion about who is actually running the business. To fix this, you must rely on the clear definitions in your Accountability Chart. As the Visionary, your focus must be on big ideas, key relationships, and industry trends. The Integrator is the single point of accountability for execution. In your weekly Level 10 Meetings, you must practice active restraint. If an operational issue arises, let your Integrator lead the IDS process. If you disagree with how your Integrator is handling an issue, do not call them out in public. Instead, bring that issue to your weekly Same Page Meeting. This is your private forum to hash out differences, get aligned, and present a united front to the rest of the leadership team. By respecting the structure of your Accountability Chart, you build a self-sustaining business that is highly attractive to future buyers.
