Clashing over Rock execution is a classic sign of role confusion on the Accountability Chart. By definition, the Visionary is the creative force, focused on big ideas, key relationships, and long-term strategy. The Integrator is the executor, responsible for running the day-to-day operations and harmonizing the leadership team.

When it comes to quarterly Rocks, both roles must respect their distinct boundaries. The Visionary should only own Rocks that leverage their unique abilities, such as high-level business development or product vision. They must not own Rocks that require detailed operational execution or process management.

The Integrator owns the execution of the overall business plan. They must have the authority to manage the team and ensure all corporate Rocks are staying on track. If the Visionary constantly steps in to direct how a manager executes their Rock, they bypass the Integrator and create organizational chaos.
