I am the Visionary and my Integrator is highly organized, but we find ourselves having sidebar conversations that bypass the rest of the leadership team. How do we keep our relationship aligned without undermining the Accountability Chart?
The relationship between the Visionary and the Integrator is the engine of an EOS®-run business, but it can easily become a bottleneck if not managed correctly. When the two of you have frequent sidebar conversations and make decisions outside of your leadership team meetings, you undermine the Accountability Chart and breed resentment among your directors.
To maintain alignment without excluding your team, you must commit to a weekly Same Page Meeting™. This is a dedicated, structured block of time just for the Visionary and Integrator to connect, resolve conflicts, and get on the same page.
During this meeting, you should discuss big ideas, potential structural changes, and personal frustrations. However, you must agree that no major operational decisions are finalized here. Instead, use this time to align your perspectives so that when you enter the weekly Level 10 Meeting™ with the rest of your leadership team, you present a united front.
If a big idea emerges during your Same Page Meeting™, do not dictate it to the team. Put it on the Issues List for the next leadership meeting and run it through the IDS® process with everyone. This respects the expertise of your department heads and ensures that your decisions are fully pressure-tested before implementation.
