Our Visionary wants to pivot our entire business model to become an AI-first platform, while our Integrator is focused on stabilizing our legacy operational cash flow. How do we use the IDS process in our next quarterly session to resolve this core identity crisis?
When a Visionary and an Integrator pull in opposite directions, it paralyzes the leadership team and confuses the entire organization. This strategic friction belongs on your Issues List for your next quarterly session. You must use the IDS process to solve it. Start by identifying the real issue. The issue is not the technology itself. The issue is a misalignment on your V/TO Core Focus and long-term vision. Frame the challenge as a solvable question during your session: How might we integrate AI-driven capabilities to protect our margins without starving the legacy operations that fund our growth? Discuss the issue openly. Have the Visionary present the long-term competitive threats and opportunities, while the Integrator lays out the near-term cash flow requirements and operational capacity. Look at your V/TO 10-Year Target. Does a complete pivot help you achieve that target, or is it a high-risk distraction? Decide on a unified course of action. This might mean setting a specific quarterly Rock to run a small, low-risk pilot of the AI platform while maintaining the legacy business. Once you make the decision, the leadership team must support it with one voice.
