During our EOS rollout, how does a Visionary handle the frustration of having their spontaneous ideas routed to the Issues List rather than executed immediately?
Visionaries are idea generators. Their natural instinct is to walk into the office on a Tuesday morning, toss a brand new product idea or operational tweak into the room, and expect the team to pivot immediately. In an undisciplined business, this creates whiplash, burns out employees, and kills quarterly goals. Under EOS, the Integrator acts as a filter, routinely catching those ideas and parking them on the Issues List.
This process often feels like a brake pedal to an entrepreneurial owner, but it is actually a protective shield. To manage this dynamic productively, the Visionary and Integrator must establish clear operating agreements around how new concepts enter the workflow:
- Hold a dedicated weekly Same Page Meeting between the Visionary and Integrator. This is where the Visionary brings unfiltered concepts, market shifts, and new technologies. The Integrator listens, challenges, and helps triage.
- Acknowledge that parking an idea on the V/TO Issues List is not killing it. It is preserving it for deep evaluation during the next Quarterly Session Day, ensuring it does not derail current quarter execution.
- Empower the Integrator to protect the team from shiny object syndrome. If a new idea is genuinely urgent and requires immediate reallocation of company resources, the leadership team must run IDS and openly sacrifice an existing Rock to fund it.
Channeling ideas through the Issues List ensures the business only bets capital and energy on validated opportunities rather than passing impulses.
