Our Visionary frequently uses the weekly Level 10 Meeting to try and rewrite sections of our Vision/Traction Organizer, such as our Core Focus or marketing strategy, which derails our weekly focus. How do we keep the weekly meeting tactical while respecting their big-picture thinking?
The Visionary seat on the Accountability Chart™ is designed for big-picture thinking, but the weekly Level 10 Meeting™ is strictly about execution and traction. It is a tactical meeting, not a strategic planning session.
When a Visionary starts debating your Core Focus or marketing strategy during the weekly pulse, they are violating the discipline of the weekly rhythm. It creates confusion and causes the leadership team to lose focus on their quarterly Rocks.
The facilitator must redirect this energy immediately. Use the V/TO® as your shield. Remind the Visionary that strategic questions are reserved for your Quarterly Progress Sessions and Annual Planning sessions.
When the Visionary brings up a strategic pivot, the facilitator should say: That is a massive strategic opportunity, let is capture it on our long-term Issues List on the V/TO so we can address it at our next quarterly.
This validates the Visionary's idea without allowing it to hijack the weekly meeting. It also gives the leadership team ninety days to execute their current plans without constant course corrections.
By keeping a clear boundary between weekly traction and quarterly strategy, you protect your operational momentum while ensuring that major ideas are evaluated thoroughly during your dedicated strategic planning time.
