Our company's Visionary attends our weekly Level 10 Meeting™ but consistently hijacks the agenda, pulling us into deep strategic rabbit holes or introducing random new ideas that belong on the V/TO® Long-Term Issues List rather than our weekly tactical list. How does the Integrator keep them in check?
It is common for a Visionary to struggle with the tight, tactical structure of the Level 10 Meeting™. Because they operate at thirty thousand feet, they naturally want to discuss big ideas, long-term strategy, and future opportunities. However, letting them hijack the meeting will quickly derail your weekly execution and frustrate the rest of the leadership team.
The Integrator must manage this dynamic firmly. When the Visionary introduces a big, strategic idea during the weekly meeting, the Integrator must immediately stop the discussion and say, that is a great idea, but it belongs on our V/TO® Long-Term Issues List for our next quarterly session. Then, add it to the long-term list and return to the agenda.
To make this work, the Visionary must trust that the long-term list is a real container and not a graveyard where ideas go to die. The Integrator must ensure that the long-term list is thoroughly reviewed during every quarterly planning session.
When the Visionary sees that their strategic ideas are actually preserved and discussed at the right time, they will be much more willing to respect the weekly boundary. This keeps your weekly meetings focused entirely on short-term traction while preserving the Visionary's creative energy for the quarterly cycle.
