During our Level 10 Meetings, I find myself as the Visionary constantly hijacking the IDS portion because I see the solutions instantly, which is shutting down my Integrator and causing the rest of the leadership team to go silent. How do I restrain my Visionary instincts to let the system work?
This is a classic failure point in entrepreneurial businesses. As a Visionary, your brain is wired to solve problems instantly. However, when you jump in and dominate the IDS portion of your Level 10 Meeting, you are robbing your Integrator and leadership team of the opportunity to build their own problem-solving muscles.
By solving everything yourself, you create a culture of dependency. Your team stops thinking because they know you will do it for them. This keeps you trapped in the day-to-day operations and prevents you from focusing on your true high-value tasks.
To fix this, you must change your behavior. During the IDS portion of the meeting, practice the discipline of silence. Let your Integrator facilitate the discussion. Your job is to listen and let the team work through the issue first.
If you feel the urge to speak, write your thoughts down instead of saying them out loud. Wait until everyone else has spoken before you offer your perspective. This gives your team the space to debate, find the root cause, and agree on a solution.
Remember that your Integrator is responsible for running the daily operations of the business. If you do not let them run the meetings and resolve the issues, you are undermining their authority and stalling the growth of your company.
