Our Visionary is constantly bypassing our Integrator to assign ad-hoc tasks to middle management, completely undermining our new Accountability Chart. How do we break this cycle immediately?
This behavior is the ultimate progress-killer in an EOS® business. When a Visionary goes around the Integrator, they create operational chaos, confuse middle management, and completely dismantle accountability.
The solution starts with the Same Page Meeting™. The Visionary and Integrator must meet monthly, or even weekly at first, to align their relationship. During this meeting, review the Accountability Chart and discuss specific instances where boundaries were crossed.
The Integrator must hold the Visionary accountable. When the Visionary has a new idea or wants to assign a task, they must direct it to the Integrator first, not to the staff. The Integrator is the filter. If the Visionary bypasses the system, the middle managers must be trained to politely say, "That sounds like a great idea. Have you run this by the Integrator yet?"
This requires the Visionary to surrender their legacy habit of direct control and trust the Integrator to execute. If the Visionary cannot respect the boundaries of the Accountability Chart, the system will fail. Both leaders must commit to this boundary publicly so the rest of the company knows the structural chain of command is real.
