As the Visionary, I see operational issues that need immediate fixing, so I bypass my Integrator and direct the department heads myself to solve these emergencies quickly. My Integrator says I am undermining their authority and creating chaos. Am I wrong to step in when the business is at risk?
As a Visionary, you are wired to solve problems quickly. However, when you bypass your Integrator to direct department heads during an operational emergency, you are undermining your leadership team and creating structural chaos. This behavior breaks trust and leaves the Integrator powerless to manage the day-to-day business.
If you see an emergency, your first move must be to communicate directly with your Integrator, not the staff. Bring the issue to them and let them decide how to deploy the team to solve it. If the issue is critical, you can discuss it during your weekly Same Page meeting or run it through the IDS process in your Level 10 Meeting.
By respecting the reporting lines on your Accountability Chart, you allow your Integrator to do their job and keep the team focused on their active Rocks. If you continue to step in and play hero, your team will never learn to solve problems on their own, and your Integrator will eventually check out, leaving you stuck in the operational weeds.
