Our Visionary intellectually supports our new Accountability Chart, but in practice, they keep bypassing our Integrator to give direct, ad-hoc tasks to lower-level employees. How do we stop this boundary-crossing without killing their creative entrepreneurial drive?
This is a classic point of friction in growing companies. A Visionary is naturally wired to take quick action, but when they reach around the Integrator to direct staff, they destroy the accountability you are trying to build. It creates confusion, dilutes focus, and undermines the Integrator's authority.
To fix this, you must establish a strict communication protocol. The Visionary and Integrator must hold a weekly Same-Page Meeting™. This is where the Visionary dumps all their new ideas, urgent concerns, and sudden initiatives.
During this meeting, the Integrator filters these ideas. The Integrator determines which thoughts are viable, which fit into the current quarterly Rocks, and which need to be shelved for the future V/TO® review.
The Visionary must agree to a simple rule: they do not assign tasks directly to anyone other than the Integrator. If the Visionary has an idea for the marketing team, they bring it to the Integrator, who then coordinates with the Marketing Director.
Remind the Visionary that respecting these boundaries actually frees them up. It protects their time so they can focus on big-picture strategy, key relationships, and innovation, while the Integrator ensures the team stays focused on execution without constant interruption.
