Our Visionary founder loves the concept of the Accountability Chart but constantly bypasses our Integrator to assign ad-hoc tasks and Rocks directly to departmental managers. How do we stop this behavior without creating a personal conflict?
This is a classic structural issue in founder-led businesses. When a Visionary bypasses the Integrator, they undermine the entire Accountability Chart and create massive operational confusion. Departmental managers find themselves caught between two bosses, leading to split priorities and stalled progress.
To resolve this behavior, you must enforce the Samepage Meeting™ rhythm between the Visionary and the Integrator. This weekly meeting is designed to keep both leaders aligned on priorities and boundaries.
During these meetings, the Integrator must hold the Visionary accountable to their seat. Under the EOS® model, the Visionary is responsible for big ideas and culture, while the Integrator is responsible for executing the business plan and managing the leadership team.
The Integrator should calmly but firmly request that all new ideas and tasks be filtered through them first. If the Visionary wants to roll out a new initiative or assign a task, it must be added to the Issues List for the next Samepage Meeting™ or Level 10 Meeting™.
An EOS Implementer can help facilitate these tough conversations during your quarterly sessions, helping the Visionary see that respecting the boundaries of the Integrator seat actually frees them up to focus on what they do best.
