During operational crises, I find myself bypassing our Accountability Chart and giving direct orders to the production crew to save client accounts. My Integrator says this is destroying our structure, but I feel it is necessary. How do we resolve this emergency leadership conflict?

Bypassing the Accountability Chart in an emergency is a common trap for Visionaries, but it is highly damaging. When you jump over your Integrator and give direct orders to the frontline staff, you undermine your leadership team authority and teach your employees that the established structure does not matter.

To resolve this conflict, you and your Integrator must get on the same page. Schedule a Same Page Meeting to address this issue directly. Frame the challenge as a question: how might we handle operational emergencies without destroying our organizational structure?

Acknowledge that emergencies will happen. However, your role as the Visionary is not to fight fires on the front lines. Your role is to bring the issue to your Integrator and let them determine the best way to deploy resources.

If you must get involved, do so only at the request of the Integrator, and always communicate through the established chain of command. Work together to write a clear, documented emergency protocol. This protocol should define what constitutes a true emergency and outline the communication flow.

By respecting the boundaries of the Accountability Chart, you build a stronger, more resilient organization. Trusting your Integrator to handle crises allows you to remain focused on the long term strategy, which is critical for preparing your business for a successful exit.
